Burn on this day, Max Fleischer (born Majer Fleischer /ˈflaɪʃər/; July 19, 1883 – September 25, 1972) was an American animator, inventor, film director and producer, and studio founder and owner. Born in Kraków, Poland, Fleischer immigrated to the United States where he became a pioneer in the development of the animated cartoon and served as the head of Fleischer Studios, which he co-founded with his younger brother Dave. He brought such animated characters as Popeye, and Superman to the movie screen, and was responsible for several technological innovations, including the Rotoscope, which was the first equipment made to produce animated cartoons for the movie screen. On this day, 19th July in 1976,Sagarmāthā National Park was formed in Nepal. It is a national park in the Himalayas, in eastern Nepal, and is dominated by Mount Everest. It encompasses an area of 1,148 km2 (443 sq mi) in the Solukhumbu District and ranges in elevation from 2,845 to 8,848 m (9,334 to 29,029 ft) at the summit of Mount Everest. In the north, it shares the international border with Qomolangma National Nature Preserve of Tibet. On this, day, 18th July 1545, The Tudor warship Mary Rose, sanks off Portsmouth; in 1982 the wreck was salvaged in one of the most complex and expensive projects in the history of maritime archaeology. The 1980 Summer Olympics, commonly known as Moscow Olympics 1980 were an international multi-sport event held from 19 July to 3 August 1980 in Moscow, USSR, in present-day Russia. The Games were the first to be staged in Eastern Europe, and remain the only Summer Olympics held there.  They were also the only Summer Olympic Games to be held in a communist country until 2008 Summer Olympics held in China. 

Eighty nations were represented at the Moscow Games, the smallest number since 1956. Led by the United States, 66 countries boycotted the games entirely because of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Some athletes from some of the boycotting countries (not included in the list of 66 countries that boycotted the games entirely) participated in the games under the Olympic Flag. The Soviet Union would later boycott the 1984 Summer Olympics. On 24 April 1865, a group of Europeans founded Allahabad Bank in Allahabad. By the end of the 19th century it had branches at Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Nainital, Calcutta, and Delhi.

Balai Chand Mukhopadhyay (19 July 1899 – 9 February 1979) was a Bengali-language novelist, short story writer, playwright, poet, and a Doctor who wrote under the pen name of Banaphul (meaning "the wild flower" in Bengali). He was a recipient of Padma Bhushan.

He is most noted for his short vignettes, often just half-page long, but his body of work spanned sixty-five years and included "thousands of poems, 586 short stories (a handful of which have been translated to English), 60 novels, 5 dramas, a number of one-act plays, an autobiography called Paschatpat (Background), and numerous essays.Courtesy : Mr Basakar, SIPA



Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception FCC (born Anna Muttathupadathu; 19 August 1910 – 28 July 1946), also known as Saint Alphonsa, was an Indian Catholic nun and educator. 

She was the first woman of Indian origin to be canonised as a saint by the Catholic Church and the first canonised saint of the Syro-Malabar Church, an Eastern Catholic Church based in Kerala. Her feast day is observed on 28 July.Courtesy : Mr Basakar, SIPA

Remembering Mangal Pandey on his 194th Birth Anniversary

• He was born on July 19, 1827 in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh, India.

• His patriotism and sacrifice for India will be remembered forever. He was the one who instigated the 1857 Indian Rebellion that is also known as the outbreak of the first war of Indian Independence.

Mangal Pandey, the Great Indian Freedom Fighter was martyred on April 8, 1857.

• He led to the Indian Rebellion in 1857, which is known as the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857. His contribution in the Indian Freedom Struggle is unparalleled. • The life of Mangal Pandey is all about patriotism, bravery and courage.

Mangal Pandey as an Indian Free Fighter is remembered as a symbolic revolutionary for initiating the first war of independence against the East India Company.

Some Important facts:

Mangal Pandey joined the 34th Bengal Native Infantry regiment as a Sepoy of the British East India Company.

• He joined the Bengal Army in the year 1849 and was a private soldier in the 5th company of the regiment.

• It was on March 29, 1857, Mangal attacked the British Officers in Barrackpore, North Kolkata.

• The Shaheed Mangal Pandey Maha Udyan Park at Barrackpore is built on his memory. This is place where he attacked the Britisher Officers and was later martyred

• As an honor to Mangal Pandey's contribution in Indian Freedom Struggle, the Department of Post honoured a commemorative stamp on 10.05.1984 as a tribute to him.

Karkala is a town in the Udupi district of Karnataka.The town was called Pandya Nagari during the period of Jain rule, and later became known as Karikallu, then Karkal and finally to Karkala. Karkala is a town of historical importance and a pilgrim centre for Jains. The single stone 13 meter high statue of Gomateshwara is located about 1 km from the center of the town and is the second tallest in Karnataka.
