Today, 7th July is the birth of famous  music  composer,  Gustav Mahler (7 July 1860 – 18 May 1911). He was an Austro-Bohemian Romantic composer, and one of the leading conductors of his generation. As a composer he acted as a bridge between the 19th century Austro-German tradition and the modernism of the early 20th century. While in his lifetime his status as a conductor was established beyond question, his own music gained wide popularity only after periods of relative neglect, which included a ban on its performance in much of Europe during the Nazi era. After 1945 his compositions were rediscovered by a new generation of listeners; Mahler then became one of the most frequently performed and recorded of all composers, a position he has sustained into the 21st century. In 2016, a BBC Music Magazine survey of 151 conductors ranked three of his symphonies in the top ten symphonies of all time.

This stamp, issued on 7th July 2010, was  to commemorate  INAS 300, formed in July 1960 to operate British Hawker Sea Hawks, which were used for operations from   the then newly acquired Light Air craft Carrier, INS Vikrant, which naval ship  became fully operational in 1961 . INAS 300 later upgraded to BAe Sea Harrier VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) fighter bombers in December 1983, for use on INS Viraat (the ex-British carrier HMS Hermes), and finally, in 2016, INAS 300 upgrades once again to operate the Russian Mikoyan MIG 29K VTOL fighter bombers based on our latest operatin gAircraft Carrier, INS Vikramaditya. A most well  deserved honour for a veteran Naval Air  squadron that  has remained in service right from the day it required to train and  get ready  to operate even before  our first  Aircraft Carrier was fully  commissioned. This squadron is also known by the name "White Tigers". Jai Hind!
