PV Sindhu Celebrate her 26th Birthday

The name PV Sindhu needs no introduction. Sindhu, who was born on July 5, 1995, in Hyderabad, is one of just two Indian badminton players to have won an Olympic medal, the other being Saina Nehwal. And she is the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal.

The ace shuttler first gained worldwide attention when she climbed into the top 20 of the BWF World Ranking in September 2012, at the age of 17, and has been in the top 10 for the majority of her professional career.

Today, on the special occasion of her birthday, let us take a look at her major wins on the world stage

On this day, 5th July 1687, Sir Isaac Newton published Philosophi├ж Naturalis Principia Mathematica. This British stamp is part of a set honouring his achievements.

*Anugrah Narayan Sinha,* passed away on 5 July 1957, was an Indian nationalist statesman, participant in Champaran Satyagraha, Gandhian & one of the architects of modern Bihar, who was the first Deputy Chief Minister and the Finance Minister of Bihar (1946–1957). He was also a Member of the Constituent Assembly of India, which was elected to write the Constitution of India and served in its first Parliament as an independent nation.


*John Howard Northrop,* born on 5 July 1891, was an American biochemist who, with James Batcheller Sumner and Wendell Meredith Stanley, won the 1946 *Nobel Prize* in Chemistry. The award was given for these scientists' isolation, crystallization, and study of enzymes, proteins, and viruses. Northrop was a Professor of Bacteriology and Medical Physics, Emeritus, at University of California, Berkeley.


*Cecil John Rhodes,* born on 5 July 1853, was a British businessman, mining magnate and politician in southern Africa who served as _Prime Minister_ of the _Cape Colony_ from 1890 to 1896. An ardent believer in British imperialism, Rhodes and his British South Africa Company founded the southern African territory of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe and Zambia), which the company named after him in 1895. South Africa's Rhodes University is also named after him. Rhodes set up the provisions of the Rhodes Scholarship, which was funded by his estate. He also put much effort towards his vision of a Cape to Cairo Railway through British territory.
