*On the same day*  Sep. 27, 1972 SR Ranganathan was born in 1892 in Vedantapuram village next to Sirkazhi in Naga District, Tamil Nadu. Ranganathan worked as a Lecturer in Maths at the Universities of Mangalore, Coimbatore and Chennai. In 1924 he was appointed Librarian of the University of Chennai. He went to London and learned the theory of classifying texts. On his return to the country he began to reorganize the university library; Founded the Chennai Literary Society. He started the School of Library Science and served as its director for 15 years. Has authored over 60 books and written over 2000 articles in many languages.
